Analysis and Comparison of Statewide Graduation Requirements

• Districts require between 20 and 31 credits for graduation.

• Generally, larger districts require fewer credits.

• 78% of students go to school in districts that require fewer than 24 credits.

• The majority of districts (148 of 246) meet but do not exceed the state’s minimum 2-credit requirement in math.

• Almost all districts (226) exceed the state’s minimum 3-credit requirement in English.

• Only 19% of districts (46) exceed the state’s minimum 2-credit requirement in science.

• Almost all districts (214) exceed the state’s minimum 2.5 credit requirement in social studies.

• No districts exceed the one credit requirement in the arts.

• More than half of the districts (134) require more than the one credit requirement in occupational education.

• The majority of districts (76%) meet but do not exceed the minimum 2-credit requirement in health and fitness.

• 89% of districts exceed the state’s minimum 5.5 credit requirement for electives; 137 districts require 8 or more electives.

• Four districts require credits in foreign language (not currently a state requirement)
