Math Focus Groups
The Washington State Board of Education would like to invite you to review and comment on the draft recommendations for the K-12 mathematics standards from our consultants' work this spring. Your input is vitally important to us, either by attending one of our focus groups or through a review of the draft report on our website. As you may know, the Board hires Strategic Teaching to conduct an independent review of Washington's K-12 mathematics standards. The work is taking place from April through the end of August 2007. Strategic Teaching is working with a Board-selected panel of Washington K-12 mathematics teachers, educational administrators and curriculum directors, and higher education mathematicians, parents, and business and community leaders.
The State Board of Education will hold focus groups across the state, in July, on the draft recommendations to provide input into the consultants; final report due to the State Board of Education at the end of August 2007. This is a tight timeline, but necessary given the work that the Office of the Superintendent for Public Instruction will need to revise the standards this fall. We hope that you would be able to attend one focus group, nearest to where you live, with our consultants. The Focus Groups are three (3) hour meetings and are scheduled from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with light refreshments served. The dates and places for the focus groups are
July 18th ESD 101 in Spokane (4204 S. Regal St) July 23rd ESD 123 in Pasco (3918 W. Court St.) July 24th Puget Sound ESD in Renton (800 Oakesdale Ave SW) A draft of the recommendations will be posted on the State Board of Education's website by July 15th. You can also find out more about the consultants and their work at our website: www.sbe.wa.gov. If you cannot attend the focus group meeting, you may provide your comments on the draft recommendation via email: sbe@k12.wa.us |
