About Us
The Washington State Board of Education was founded in 1877 and is one of oldest state governing bodies. In 2005, the State Legislature significantly reconstituted the board giving it an expanded leadership role as a catalyst for positive and immediate change in the state’s K-12 educational system.
The Board has three overarching goals, to:
-
Improve achievement for all students,
-
Improve graduation rates, and
-
Improve student preparation for post-secondary education and the 21st century world of work and citizenship.
