Key Initiatives

Improving student achievement is one of the most critical issues facing our state today. The Board recognizes this urgency. The Board is working on several key initiatives to ensure all students are prepared to succeed in postsecondary education, the 21st century workforce and citizenship, including:

A Meaningful High School Diploma: preparing students for life after high school no matter what path they choose – postsecondary education, gainful employment or citizenship.

World-class math: providing students with the math foundation they need to succeed.

Exemplary science: fostering science education to expand students’ minds and broaden horizons.

A system of accountability: ensuring all students receive a high quality education.

SBE understands that state policy changes impact local schools and districts. The Board is committed to working with all partners to find the right solutions, and secure the tools and resources to improve student achievement and help all students reach their potential. If we want our students to succeed, we have to prepare them TODAY for the demands of the workplace, postsecondary education and citizenship.
