OLYMPIA, Wash. – Students from Heritage High School and the Seattle World School took first place in their respective categories in the third annual Washington State Board of Education student video contest.

The online video contest challenged students to create videos highlighting the importance of social studies and language arts courses in high school. Videos were evaluated on multiple factors, including content, theme, cinematography, creativity, and delivery.

"The winning videos clearly demonstrated the importance of a language arts and social studies. Students should be proud of the work they have done,” said Jeff Vincent, Chair of the Washington State Board of Education.

Videos were evaluated by representatives of the Washington State Board of Education.

The contest, which started in February, came to an end on May 1, 2012. All entries are available on the State Board of Education YouTube channel for viewing. Judges’ comments are available on the State Board of Education website.

The Washington State Board of Education will undertake a new student video contest in February 2013. Students in fifth grade and up are eligible to compete.
