The new career and college ready graduation requirements place an emphasis on the importance of the High School and Beyond Plan in a student’s academic career. Rather than being a check box before graduation, the plan should be a living document begun early so that a student may develop personalized pathways based on career and educational goals and make intentional selections for the third credits of math and science.

HSBP processes vary across and within districts, meaning that students will have different access to high-quality plans depending on where they live and the schools they attend. The SBE has engaged practitioners, partner agencies and associations, and other stakeholders to craft guidance on the draft elements of a high-quality HSBP, identify barriers to implementing these plans, and identify ways to address those barriers so that every student is engaged in a meaningful planning process no matter what district they live in or school they attend.

The board will visit Wenatchee High School, Wenatchee Learns Connect Center, and the Wenatchee Valley Technical Skills Center to observe the career and college readiness opportunities available in the Wenatchee School District.

The meeting agenda and materials are now available at: sbe.wa.gov/materials.

Time for public comment will be provided. The public and news media are invited to attend.
