Enrollment Reporting

The Washington State Board of Education annually collects private school enrollment data. Participation in enrollment reporting is not required for private school approval, although enrollment data may be used to verify information used in the approval process. Enrollment data is used in distribution of federal funds.

Enrollment reporting is closed for the 2023 - 2024 school year, but corrections will be accepted through December 1. You can find a list of private school enrollment report statuses as of November 29 here: enrollment report statuses. Discrepancies and/or issues with report forms are listed in column E under NOTES.

Private schools are encouraged to submit enrollment information. Enrollment numbers are self-reported and are not verified by the State Board. However, the State Board is continually working to improve the process and seeks to report private school enrollment as accurately as possible.

Schools provide the number of Kindergarten through 12th Grade students in each grade by race / ethnicity, using the following categories specified in federal regulations per federal and state guidance:

  • American Indian / Alaskan Native
  • Asian
  • Black / African American
  • Hispanic / Latino of any race(s)
  • Native Hawaiian / Other Pacific Islander
  • Two or More Races
  • White
  • Unknown / Prefer Not to Share / Not Reflected in Previous Categories

The State Board also requests the total number of students in Early Learning or Pre-K programs, if the school provides one.

Private school enrollment data can be found on the Private Schools | SBE (wa.gov) main web page.
