SBE to Host Special Meeting, Emergency Waiver Program

On February 25, beginning at 1:00 p.m., the State Board of Education (SBE) will host a special meeting where the Board will review and discuss a draft of emergency rules about the emergency graduation requirements waiver program. The draft is available to the public. The Board will receive public comment, scheduled for 2:00 p.m. SBE will also collect written public comment (email SBE@k12.wa.us).

SBE to Hold Public Hearing on Proposed Rules to Implement the 24-Credit Graduation Requirements

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Washington State Board of Education (SBE) will hold a public hearing on proposed rules to implement SB 6552 and consider adopting them at the July 9-10 board meeting in Spokane. The board will also review and consider approval of required action plans.

State Board of Education to Recognize 2014 Teacher of the Year, Hold Public Hearings

TUMWATER, Wash. – The Washington State Board of Education (SBE) will recognize Washington’s 2014 Teacher of the Year Katie Brown, and hold two public hearings at the January 8-9 board meeting in Tumwater, at the New Market Skills Center.

State Board of Education Reviews Proposals to Incorporate Student Growth Measures into the Way Schools are Evaluated in Washington State

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. –The Washington State Board of Education’s May 7-9 meeting in Federal Way will focus on revising the Washington Achievement Index to include measures of student growth. The meeting will also address standards for approval for charter school authorizers, Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives for English Language Learners, Next Generation Science Standards, and CTE course equivalencies in Science.

State Board of Education to Hold Public Hearing on Draft Rules Related to State’s First Public Charter Schools

OLYMPIA, Wash. –The Washington State Board of Education’s February 26 meeting in Olympia, at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, will include a public hearing on draft rules pertinent to the state’s first public charter schools.

Those wishing to provide comment on the draft rules may attend the hearing in Olympia, via K-20 video feed in Spokane at the office of ESD 101, or by writing us directly (sbe@k12.wa.us).
