The State Board of Education has a small staff of seven serving a 16-member Board with authority over graduation requirements, private school approvals, and school recognition (to name a few).

For assistance in resolving issues or concerns between families and schools, please contact the Washington State Governor’s Office of the Education Ombuds at 866-297-2597.
To make a complaint about a school or district, contact the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.
For special education concerns, contact the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction's Special Education Team at 360-725-6075.
For information about home-based instruction, contact the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction ALE team.
For an issue regarding a college, professional/technical school, or university, contact the Washington Student Achievement Council at 360-753-7800.

The Board welcomes written and oral comments from the public to provide a greater opportunity for engagement and participation in our work. This is a limited public forum; comments are accepted on current agenda items or matters under the Board’s authority. Comments that meet this criteria are shared with the Board and may be posted publicly during a future Board meeting. The Board reserves the right at its discretion to edit or summarize written submissions if duplicative or voluminous.
