State Board of Education to Consider Spokane School District’s Charter Authorizer Application
YAKIMA, Wash. – The Washington State Board of Education (SBE) will vote on Spokane School District’s charter authorizer application and hold a public hearing on proposed charter schools WAC 180-19-210 at the Sept. 11 meeting in Yakima, at the ESD 105 office.
Spokane School District submitted a charter authorizer application to the SBE by the required July 1, 2013, due date for consideration for approval in calendar year 2013. The SBE must issue a decision approving or denying the application no later than September 12, 2013.
A high-quality team of evaluators has reviewed the application, assigned a rating to each part based on criteria in adopted SBE rules, and interviewed school district representatives. The board will review the evaluation of the application and district responses in the interview, and will make a decision to approve or deny the application.
Each charter authorizer, whether a school district or the Washington Charter School Commission, is required to submit an annual report to the SBE. The SBE will hold a public hearing on proposed WAC 180-19-210, which:
Sets the date by which the report must be submitted,
Specifies the required information that must be submitted in the report, and
Establishes the form and manner in which the report must be submitted.
The board meeting will begin Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 8 a.m.
